Kapoor made his debut in Hindi cinema in 1995 with the film Prem, opposed to newcomer Tabu. Although the two newcomers had quite decent performances, the film was delayed for many years because it was in production since 1989. At its release, it bombed at the box office.

Kapoor's next film was Raja,opposite Madhuri Dixit, which was a box office hit. He then starred in several films as a lead actor, such as Auzaar, Mohabbat and Sirf Tum . He did not have much success as a principal actor because most of his films failed at the box office.In 2002, he appeared as a villain playing the psychotic husband of Esha Deol in Koi Mere Dil Se Poochhe. He made his television debut in 2003 appearing in the television series Karishma - The miracles of fate in front of Karisma Kapoor. He has played supporting roles in films like Qayamat: City Under Menace, Julie,Luck By Chance and Shaandaar.
