Bindu was born to the producer Nanubhai Desai and his wife Jyotsna in a small village called Hanuman Bhagda, in the Valsad district of Gujarat. Bindu's path to success was not easy. Bindu had her first success with Ittefaq and Do Raaste in 1969. From there, she wrote her success story with Shakti Samanta's Kati Patang (1970). a number that is still considered today as one of the highlights of the film .
