Jisshu Sengupta, popularly known as Jisshu, is a film actor, producer and television presenter, who works mainly in Telugu and Tamil films. He also appeared in the films Kannada, Malayalam, Bengali, Hindi, English and Oriya. Sengupta was born in Kolkata; he studied at Julien Day School, where he was completely absorbed in cricket. He pursued studies in economics at Heramba Chandra College, after which he began working in an advertising agency. Jisshu made his debut in showbiz through a mythical television series, Mahaprabhu, as the main character Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. The role has become a breakthrough for the beginner. Subsequently, he made his debut at Priyojon, which could not take off his career. In 2002, he played Tagore in Sukanta Roy's ambitious Chelebela adventure alongside Debashree Roy as Kadambari Devi. He then appeared in a series of critically and commercially unsuccessful projects. He made his Bollywood debut with Shyam Benegal's award-winning film, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose: The Forgotten Hero (2004). A turning point came in his career when he collaborated with Rituparno Ghosh for Abohoman of the latter, which earned him a critical acclaim. His later collaborations with Ghosh for films that include Noukadubi and Shob Charitro Kalponik brought him a higher degree of critical and commercial success. Sengupta's collaborations with other directors for films such as Jaatishwar have enabled him to become one of the most sought-after actors in Bengali cinema. |

Career
Jisshu began his career with a telecaster, called Mahaprabhu, which aired on Doordarshan. He was acclaimed by critics for representing the young Chaitanya Mahaprabhu in the series. After his finished part in the series, he made his silver screen debut through Priyojon, led by Dinen Sengupta, which was a critical and commercial failure. In 2002, he played Tagore in Sukanta Roy's ambitious Chelebela adventure alongside Debashree Roy as Kadambari Devi. Subsequently, he appeared in a series of critically and commercially unsuccessful companies, as the main manager. He made his debut in bangla cinema through Moner Majhe Tumi, appearing as a parallel track, which was the most profitable film of Bangladesh in 2003. He continued to play supporting roles in commercial films, namely Abhimanyu, Kurukshetra, Mahaguru, Sangram, Sajani, Guru, Janmadata, Chore Chore Mastuto Bhai and Premi, achieving a low degree of success. In 2008, he starred in the romantic comedy film Love and Bor Asbe Ekhuni. He also debuted at Bollywood with Shyam Benegal's biographical war film, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose: The Forgotten Hero. |
