The film has been Based on John Green's 2012 novel The Fault in Our Stars. The film was scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on 29 November 2019 before getting postponed to 8 May 2020. The film was again postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The film features Sushant Singh Rajput, debutante Sanjana Sanghi and Saif Ali Khan. Initially named Kizie Aur Manny, filming of Dil Bechara begun in Jamshedpur on 9 July 2018.
