After the huge success of Article 15, Actor Ayushmann Khurrana and Director Anubhav Sinha once again collaborated for another Bollywood film ‘Anek’. The action thriller film written and directed by Anubhav Sinha who also co-produced it with T-Series. Set in North East India, it focuses on an undercover cop on a mission to restore peace in the Northeastern region of India. The film stars Ayushmann Khurrana, J.D. Chakravarthy, Andrea Kevichüsa, Manoj Pahwa and Kumud Mishra.

Ayushmann and Anubhav had previously worked together in Article 15. Anubhav had served as the director on the film which garnered great critical acclaim and was a commercial hit. It was based on India’s caste divide and how a big town, upper-caste cop arrives in rural Uttar Pradesh to find the caste system deeply infesting the country’s roots. He sets out to solve a rape and murder case in the town while fighting against the corrupt judicial system and the abuse of power.

-> Ayushmann Khurrana starrer Anek is yet another content-driven film after The Kashmir Files to be arriving this year. Just like the Vivek Agnihotri-directed geo-political film that dealt with the Kashmir genocide, the Anubhav Singha directorial Anek picks up the geo-politics of the Northeast and is set in the current times.
-> Apart from action, one can expect a lot of drama and action in there, something that was the core of Article 15 as well, another Anubhav Sinha and Ayushmann Khurranna starrer, which made a statement on the current state of underprivileged and casteism in the country. Back in time that film had seen an opening day number of 05.02 crores and then grown from strength to strength to close at Rs. 65.45 crores.
-> Had this been pre-pandemic, the film could well have been expected to open in 7-9 crores, given the credentials and the precedence set by Article 15. However, these are different times today so for such genre and set up of films, the opening day is expected to be on more conservative lines. Even a start of 3-4 crores would be decent enough as from here it has potential to build well over the rest of the weekend.

Aido is a ferocious boxer, who has been a target of repeated racism but still aims to bring a gold medal for India thereby hoping to be fully accepted as an Indian. Will Joshua triumph in his mission to unite the country? This is a heart wrenching tale that questions what it takes to be an INDIAN above all the divide that the country faces.
