Chopra made his test debut in Ahmedabad against New Zealand at the end of 2003 while India was looking for an opening partner for his teammate from Delhi, Virender Sehwag.Chopra's international career began well, marking two half-centuries against New Zealand in 2003/04 at the second test at Mohali.
