Govinda Ahuja is an actor, dancer, comedian and former Indian politician known for his work in Hindi films. Known for his dancing skills, Govinda has received twelve nominations for the Filmfare Award, a Filmfare Special Award, a Filmfare Award for Best Actor and four Zee Cine Awards. The actor was a member of the Parliament of India from 2004 to 2009. Govinda's first film was Ilzaam from 1986, and he appeared in more than 165 Indian films. In June 1999, he was voted the tenth biggest star on the stage or screen in a BBC News Online poll.
Govinda, also known as "Chichi Bhaiya" was born on December 21, 1963 to former actor Arun Kumar Ahuja and actress-performer Nirmala Devi in a family with Punjabi and Sindhi roots. Govinda's mother is from Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. Arun is best known for the Aurat of Mehboob Khan. He produced an unsuccessful movie and became ill soon after.The family, living in a bungalow on the Carter Road in Mumbai, moved to Virar, a northern suburb of Mumbai where Govinda was born.The youngest of six children, was given the name "Chi Chi", meaning "little finger" in Punjabi, the language spoken at home. Career
After Govinda received a Bachelor of Commerce degree, his father suggested a career in film. At that time, Govinda saw the movie Disco Dancer; Subsequently, he practiced for hours and circulated a promotional VHS tape. He was offered jobs in a fertilizer business and an Allwyn advertisement.
His first leading role was in Tan-Badan vis-à-vis Kushboo, led by his uncle Anand. Govinda started filming for her next film, Love 86, in June 1985. Her first release was Ilzaam, which was a box-office success, soon followed by another Love 86 hit. year.
He has appeared in numerous films of different genres between 1987 and 1989, including family dramas Khudgarz, Dariya Dil, Ghar Ghar Ki Kahani and action films including Hatya, Marte Dam Tak , Jeete Hain Shaan Se and Jung Baaz . Govinda worked with David Dhawan for the first time in the 1989 action film Taaqatwar and worked with Rajinikanth and Sridevi in Gair Kanooni the same year
In 1990, Govinda played in the cult classic Awaargi, with Anil Kapoor and Meenakshi Sheshadri. Swarg and Maha Sangram with Vinod Khanna, Aditya Pancholi and Madhuri Dixit have also been successful. In 1991, he appeared alongside Amitabh Bachchan and Rajnikant in the hit movie Hum.
In 1992, he appeared in Zulm Ki Hukumat, an Indian version of The Godfather, and Shola Aur Shabnam of David Dhawan. His successful collaboration with Dhawan continued with Aankhen, the most profitable film of 1993. He directed with Dhawan several hit comedy films: Raja Babu,Coolie No. 1, Saajan Chale Sasural, Banarasi Babu , Deewana Mastana , Hero No. 1, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan and Haseena Maan Jaayegi.
The actor has sung in some of his films: "Meri Pant Bhi Sexy" in Dulaara and "Gori Gori" in Shola Aur Shabnam. Dhawan and other filmmakers have often cast her with actresses such as Karishma Kapoor, Juhi Chawla and Raveena Tandon during this decade. |
