Sidharth Malhotra is an Indian actor who appears in Hindi films. Malhotra began a modeling career at the age of 18. Dissatisfied with the profession, he then worked as assistant director of Karan Johar in the 2010 film My Name Is Khan. He made his acting debut with a lead role in Johar's adolescent drama of the year, for which he received a Filmfare Award for Best Male Premiere nomination.Malhotra played a budding businessman in the comedy drama Hasee Toh Phasee , a hardened criminal in the romantic thriller Ek Villain, and an aspiring writer in the family drama Kapoor & Sons.

Malhotra was born in Delhi, India, into a Punjabi family, Sunil, a former captain in the merchant marine, and Rimma Malhotra, a housewife.He was educated at Don Bosco School in Delhi and Birla Vidya Niketan and graduated from Shaheed Bhagat Singh College at Delhi University.At the age of 18, Malhotra began modeling. Interested in pursuing an acting career, he auditioned successfully for a film to be directed by Anubhav Sinha. However, the film was sidelined, following which he worked as assistant director of Karan Johar on the 2010 film My Name Is Khan.

In 2012, Malhotra made his acting debut with Johar's student of the year alongside Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt. He was chosen as Abhimanyu Singh, a financially limited scholarship student, who competes with his best friend Rohan to win an annual school championship. CNN-IBN film critic Rajeev Masand said Malhotra's performance was "serious", adding that he had "a pleasant presence". Student of the Year was a financial success that earned in the domestic market.

Malhotra was later paired with Parineeti Chopra and Adah Sharma for the romantic comedy Hasee Toh Phasee , which tells the love story of a scientist and an underconfident businessman. Mohar Basu of Koimoi found his performance "restrained" and described his chemistry with Chopra as "living" and "sincere"; NDTV's Saibal Chatterjee praised her on-screen presence and compared it to Amitabh Bachchan's early works.The film recorded a moderate box office performance, with global revenues of 620 million.

The second release of Malhotra in 2014 was the romantic thriller directed by Mohit Suri, Ek Villain. Malhotra was cast as Guru, a hardened criminal whose terminally ill woman trial killer . Shubhra Gupta of The Indian Express has reviewed: "Sidharth Malhotra is watchable even though he has a hard time making threats - he just looks so kind and healthy all the time, even when he rocks bones." to be plagiarized from the Korean film I Saw the Devil, although Suri rejected the allegations.
