Career
Amrish Puri played in more than 400 films between 1967 and 2005, and was one of the most successful villains in Bollywood. Puri first came to Mumbai in the footsteps of her elder brothers - Madan Puri and Shaman Puri, who were already known actors known to play villainous roles.
He failed his first screening test and found a job with the Employment Insurance Corporation of the Ministry of Labor and Employment. At the same time, he started playing at the Prithvi Theater in plays written by Satyadev Dubey.
He eventually became famous as a theater actor and won the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1979. This theatrical recognition quickly led to television commercials and finally to movies at the age of 40.
Puri then worked in Hindi, Kannada, Marathi, Hollywood, Punjabi, Malayalam, Telugu and Tamil films. Although successful in many regional films, he is best known for his work in Bollywood cinema.
During the 1970s, Puri often worked in supportive roles, usually as the main villain's henchman. He was noticed in the 1980 Hum Paanch's super-hit movie in which he played the main villain. After that, he started being the main villain in other movies. |
